South girls tie for first
The South Davidson girls picked up a huge 59-33 win over Chatham Central in Yadkin Valley Conference action in Denton on Friday.
With the win, the Wildcats (10-2 YVC, 13-6 overall) forged a tie with Chatham Central for first place in the league standings. Madi Beeson led the way for South with 17 points, Holly Wall added 11 points and seven steals, and Addie Grubb had 10 points and seven rebounds.
The Wildcats host West Montgomery on Tuesday.
Reagan downs North boys
North Davidson dropped a 56-46 Central Piedmont Conference game at Reagan on Friday.
Charles Brunson led the Knights with 13 points, Bronson Canovai had 12 and Brandon Easter nine.
North dipped to 1-5 in the CPC, 7-12 overall. The Knights welcome Reynolds on Tuesday.
Sheets JV gold wins again
The Sheets Memorial Christian School junior varsity boys gold team topped Rockwell Christian 39-24 Friday.
Jake Simmons paced the Eagles with 10 points, and Evan Gurner chipped in nine.
Sheets moved to 9-8, and the Eagles visit Woodland on Friday.
Storm drops Ledford boys
Ledford couldn’t hold on to an 8-point halftime lead and dropped a 63-55 Mid-Piedmont Conference game at Southern Guilford on Friday.
Nathan Parks poured in 19 points for the Panthers, who fell to 1-5 in the MPC, 5-14 overall. Alex Brouillard chipped in 13 and Daniel Lawson 10.
The Panthers welcome Northeast Guilford on Tuesday.
Ledford JV girls roll
The Ledford junior varsity girls pounded Southern Guilford 77-20 in Wallburg on Friday.
Jessie Hayworth pumped in 18 points to pace the Panthers, who improved to 15-3. Kayla Leach added 16 points and Allie Fischer scored 10.
The Panthers travel to Southwestern Randolph on Friday.
Rockwell turns back Sheets boys
Rockwell Christian School jumped out to a 16-7 lead after one quarter and never looked back in a 63-31 victory over the Sheets Memorial Christian School boys on Friday at Rockwell.
Tanner Wilhoit led the Eagles with 20 points. Sheets, now 3-14, plays at Woodland on Monday.
Ledford girls dominate Storm
Ledford’s girls outscored Southern Guilford 27-6 in the first half and rolled to a 55-24 Mid-Piedmont Conference win at Southern Guilford on Friday.
Emmalee Thomas hit five 3-pointers and finished with 21 points and eight rebounds, and Courtney Callicutt added 17 points as the Panthers moved to 6-0 in the MPC, 17-3 overall. Southern fell to 4-2, 6-10 with the loss. Leigh Ann Midkiff pulled down 11 rebounds for Ledford, which visits Eastern Randolph on Monday and hosts Northeast Guilford in a key MPC game Tuesday.
West JV girls stop Salisbury
West Davidson’s junior varsity girls pulled out a 52-35 victory at Salisbury on Friday.
Jaenice Leonard led the way for the Dragons with 14 points, and Casey Crisp and Hannah Green kicked in 11 apiece.
West JV boys complete sweep
West Davidson’s junior varsity boys completed a sweep at Salisbury on Friday, dropping the Hornets 48-40.
Kyle Smith paced the Dragons with 10 points, and Justin Norman and Jeremiah Blackburn added seven each.
The Dragons host Lexington on Tuesday.
East JV girls cruise
East Davidson’s junior varsity girls rolled to a 53-27 victory at Lexington on Friday.
Savannah Wagoner’s 14 points led the Eagles, and Jessica Ferguson added 13. Melissa Tulsi had 12 points for the Jackets.
Sheets girls move to .500
The Sheets Memorial Christian School girls improved to 8-8 overall with a 26-17 win at Rockwell Christian on Saturday.
Sarah Gainey had eight points and eight steals to lead the Eagles. Laura Blinson added six points and nine rebounds, and Rachel McLean had five points and nine rebounds.
The Eagles visit Woodland on Monday.
South boys rout Bears
South Davidson’s boys blew out Chatham Central 90-54 in Yadkin Valley Conference action in Denton on Friday.
Austin Hatfield led a balanced attack for the Wildcats with 22 points. Wil Collins had 17 points and a career-high 16 assists, Taylor Hatfield added 14 points and Daniel Cook chipped in 10.
South, now 10-2 in the YVC, 16-4 overall, welcomes West Montgomery on Tuesday.
Central JV boys nip Dogs
Central Davidson’s junior varsity boys escaped with a 44-41 win at Thomasville on Friday.
Jordan Lakey poured in 15 points to lead the Spartans, who improved to 13-6. Central plays host to Salisbury on Tuesday.
Lexington Middle boys roll
The Lexington Middle School boys clinched the division championship with a 58-27 win over Ellis on Thursday.
Daniel Reed-Bennett led a balanced Jacket attack with 12 points. Marvin Holmes added 11 and Josh Medley nine.
Lexington will host Central Davidson at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in the opening round of the Davidson/Davie Middle School conference tournament.
NDMS girls win big
The North Davidson Middle School girls got 19 points from Makayla Lilly en route to a 56-31 victory over Ledford Middle in Wallburg on Thursday.
Savannah Carter chipped in 12 points as the Panthers finished the regular season at 11-3. Ledford will face Ellis at Brown Middle on Monday in the first round of the Davidson/Davie Middle School conference tournament.
