In their game last Friday against Thomasville, the West Davidson girls nearly came all the way back from a 22-point deficit. The Green Dragons fell way behind East Davidson on Tuesday.
But there wasn’t any comeback in this one.
Jennifer Welborn led three players in double figures with 17 points as the Golden Eagles routed West 66-26. Ariel Grimsley had 11 and Taylor Bell 10 for the Eagles.
East used a 15-0 run that spanned parts of the first and second quarters to turn a 5-4 deficit into a 19-5 lead. The game was never competitive after that as East continued to pull away. East coach Don Corry sent his starters to the bench early in the fourth quarter.
“We just didn’t shoot the ball well tonight,” said West coach David Klinkoski. “I thought we had some open looks in the first half and we just couldn’t buy a shot.”
Callie Herman was most of the Dragons’ offense, with the freshman scoring 16 points.
The Dragons fell to 4-15 overall and 0-9 in the CCC.
East improved to 11-10 overall and 3-6 in the conference.
“Jennifer Welborn played very well for us tonight,” Corry said. “We get to send the seniors out on a high note. Nobody slacked off at all.”
West hosts Central Davidson to close out the regular season on Friday while East goes to Salisbury.
