North swimmers fare well
Several North Davidson swimmers had strong showings at last weekend’s 4-A Central Regional meet, and those who finished in the top eight qualified for this weekend’s state championships in Cary.
For the North girls, Bridgette Bonnette, Rachel Greene, Heather Coppley and Kacie Michael (medley relay) finished 12th; Savannah Johnston (200 free) finished fifth; Kylee Wooten (200 free) was 13th; Greene (200 IM) was 12th; Kaylyn Vaughan (200 IM) was 15th; Madison Wooten (200 IM) finished 16th; Coppley (200 IM) was 20th; Kacie Michael (50 free) finished 17th; Johnston (500 free) was third; Kylee Wooten (500 free) was 17th; Johnston, Greene, Haley Pace and Kacie Michael (200 free relay) were seventh; Greene (100 back) was 14th; Coppley (100 back) finished 15th; Madison Wooten (100 breast) was 20th; and Johnston, Coppley, Vaughan and Kacie Michael (400 free relay) were 13th.
The North girls came in fourth place with 89 points. East Chapel Hill won the girls’ meet with 290 points.
For the North boys, Brady Whicker, Sam Day, Jadd Smith and Sam Martin (medley relay) finished 12th and set a new school record; Day (200 IM) finished fourth and set a new school record; Whicker, Martin, Smith and Day (200 free relay) finished seventh and set a new school record; Whicker (100 back) was 12th and set a new school record; Day (100 breast) finished eighth and set a new school record; and Whicker, Matthew Warrick, Heath Tucker and Michael Norman (400 free relay) were 13th.
North’s boys finished 15th at the meet with 73 points. East Chapel Hill won the boys’ meet with 351.5 points.
