Jackets shut down Raiders

Lexington defeated South Rowan 2-0 in a nonconference match at Philpott Stadium on Monday.

Katie DeZego scored both goals for the Jackets, with one assist from Angelica Velazco. Hannah Jackson led the Lexington defense, and Libni Iglesias had eight saves in goal for the shutout.

Lexington, now 3-1, visits Atkins on Thursday.

Warriors top East

Wheatmore downed East Davidson 8-4 in the Eagles’ season opener in Trinity on Monday.

Jessica Ferguson scored two goals for the Eagles, and Chloe Yarbrough and Kali Stinson had one goal each. Stinson added a pair of assists, and Erin Hemric added an assist.

East visits Trinity on Wednesday, with the junior varsity match set for 4:30 p.m.

Central, Villains play to draw

Central Davidson and Bishop McGuinness played to a 3-3 draw on Monday in Kernersville, with Carly Spainhour scoring in the 77th minute to pull the Spartans with their nonconference opponent.

Haley Westervelt and Alex Myers scored the other Central goals. Spainhour and Westervelt each had an assist. Chandler Young was credited with seven saves in the net.

Central (1-0-1) hosts North Davidson on Wednesday.
