Panthers shut down Storm
Duke Boger fired a two-hitter to lead Ledford to a 4-0 win in its Mid-Piedmont Conference opener at Southern Guilford on Friday.
Boger struck out seven as the Panthers improved to 4-4.
Ledford welcomes Northeast Guilford at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Eagles nip Wheatmore
Josh Craven homered to lead a three-run East Davidson uprising in the bottom of the third inning, and that was enough as the Eagles held off visiting Wheatmore 3-1 in nonconference action in Thomasville on Friday.
Avery Bowles got the win for the Eagles (7-1), who avenged their only loss of the season at Wheatmore on March 1. Kelvin Pena scored on a wild pitch for East, and Ryan McIntyre drove in the final run. Bowles worked five innings to pick up the win, and Braxton Shetley tossed the final two innings for the save. Trevor Jones was 2-for-2 at the plate for East.
East welcomes Lexington at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in its Central Carolina Conference opener.
East JVs win
The East Davidson junior varsity squad defeated Wheatmore 4-2 in Trinity on Friday.
Luke Causey got the win for the Eagles, with five innings of work. He allowed two runs and struck out seven, and Austin Hunt picked up the save. Gage Love went 2-for-4 with a double and three stolen bases, Hunt scored two runs and Cody Beck had a hit and scored a run.
East, now 4-2, visits Lexington at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
On Thursday, East beat Trinity 17-4 at Trinity.
Jake Geren was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and three RBIs, Toby Craven was 2-for-4 with three runs scored, three RBIs and a double, and Bradley Carver was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs.
Carver got the win on the mound with four innings of shutout ball, striking out eight.
North rips Laney
North Davidson romped to a 14-4 nonconference win in five innings over Laney in Welcome on Friday.
Drew Beaver had a huge night at the plate for the Knights with three hits, including a homer and four RBIs. Khylil Miller was 3-for-3 and scored three runs, E.P. Reese had two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs, Chase Mitchell doubled and homered, and Wesley Little was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Josh Roberson earned the win on the mound for the Knights, who climbed to 5-2. North opens Central Piedmont Conference play at Reagan at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
North Middle romps, 17-0
North Davidson Middle School’s majors team romped Ledford Middle School 17-0 in four innings on Friday in Wallburg.
Joe Butts was 3-for-3 with an RBI, Austin Beck was 2-for-3 with two doubles, Jacob Rhodes was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Kevin Beaver was 2-for-2 with an RBI. Peyton Bennett got the win with three strikeouts in three innings.
North (3-0) faces Oak Grove Middle School at 6 p.m. Monday at North Davidson High School.
