Eagles rout Raiders in opener

East Davidson looked to be a heavy favorite coming in to its 2-A playoff opener Friday night.

The Eagles didn’t disappoint.

East erupted for 12 runs in the bottom of the first inning and cruised to a 22-0 victory over High Point Andrews in Thomasville. East, the No. 1 seed from the Central Carolina Conference, collected 18 hits and Avery Bowles tossed a one-hitter.

Ryan McIntire was 3-for-3 with a double, home run and four RBIs; Tyler Stroup was 2-for-2 with a homer and four RBIs; Trevor Jones went 3-for-3 with a double; Nathan Campbell went 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBIs; Nick Williams had three hits and drove in five runs; and Braxton Shetley went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

The Eagles (21-3) will host Cuthbertson on Tuesday in the second round.

In other playoff action, Wilkes Central defeated Central Davidson 5-4 in the 2-A playoffs. West Stokes turned back West Davidson 7-0. And in 3-A action, Gray’s Creek defeated Ledford 5-2.

North majors escape

The North Davidson Middle School majors team nipped South Davie 5-4 in the semifinals of the middle school tournament at Welcome School on Friday.

Peyton Bennett earned the win with five innings of work, striking out four. Austin Beck threw two innings of relief, striking out five, to earn the save.

Jed Bryant blasted a two-run homer, Joe Butts doubled and scored a run, Keven Beaver drove in a run and Beck stole three bases.

North, now 16-0, will face Ellis in the title game at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at North Davidson High School.

Ellis downs Central

Central Davidson Middle School’s majors team dropped a 10-0 decision to Ellis Middle in the semifinals of the tournament Thursday at Ellis.

On Tuesday in the tournament opener, Central downed Tyro 2-0. Greg Brown threw a complete-game shutout.
